The Ernai Youth Organization has taken an initiative in the Plaza Nueva de Vitoria-Gasteiz to denounce the “precariousness suffered by young people who work in public services”. In a statement, the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz and other public institutions make public services available to private companies: “When companies enter a selection process through a public competition, companies get economic benefits in exchange for insufficient working conditions for young workers.”
Members of the Youth Organization are clear that: “These companies have no role, apart from staying with the money of the institution.” And they've set as an example climbers, first responders, FCC, home services and other trades. “These subcontractors derive these benefits in exchange for not complying with labour conventions, not providing protective equipment to workers, low wages and generally not respecting workers’ rights.”
They have added that many of those who have such jobs in these areas are young, many of them employed through internships or temporary contracts. They have therefore asked the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz to act responsibly and have encouraged the workers of the centres of Vitoria-Gasteiz to participate in the protests against precariousness.
On 13 and 14 June, organized by Ernai Gazte Erakundea and under the slogan Bizitzak biziarazi, different marches will be held at different points in Euskal Herria. On Thursday there will be round tables and different activities in different neighborhoods and on Friday, starting in the morning, the youth will walk the streets of the city: “We want to highlight the importance of the Friday afternoon initiative (18:00), which will be a mobilisation against precariousness”.
On Saturday, June 15, there will be central events in Vitoria-Gasteiz, at the level of the Basque Country: At 12:00 a.m. they will meet in Plaza Artium of the Ordinary General Assembly, and at 19:00 they will hold the closing ceremony.

The Gernikarra singer Eñaut Elorrieta has written an excellent synthesis for our people, singing “we have come long, we go far”. And it's true, we're a long-term reality, and this region has something to say on that road. The Tree of Gernika remains shaded as it was for... [+]
