The members of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Housing Union have strongly denounced the sanction imposed by the Basque Government and the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council against them, imposing fines amounting to 70,000 euros, accusing several pandemic breaches that were protesting to paralyse a eviction in January 2021. They denounce that they have used the Moorish law and emergency laws during the pandemic and that they have been sanctioned for not respecting the perimeter confinement and distances, among other things.
“It is clear that, in addition to being a measure contrary to those we participate in this protest, it is a message to all those who intend to make similar complaints hereafter,” they explain in a note. They accuse the Government and the City Hall of having made “an attempt to economically stifle an entire movement.” They therefore stress that “it is time to extend class solidarity” and call for fines to be paid. They have put in place a collection that has enabled a current account.
