Last Tuesday, the Local Police and the Ertzaintza evicted 15 people from the occupied property on the 15th of Los Herrán Street. The Housing Union called on the population to concentrate on the street to protest and paralyze the eviction of housing. The police operation, which lasted throughout the morning, has resulted in the arrest of a number of people.
In the end, eviction was consummated and all detainees were released overnight. But some of the evicted are still on the street, where they have been arrested by the police. According to the Housing Union, only one alternative has been achieved for a family, so that seven people remain on the street.
For the time being, the union has given them the place to spend the night, but it has demanded a "collective solution" for the workers. "We demand that the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Emergency Social Services provide a quality, sustainable and free housing alternative," they said.
"What we saw on Tuesday is no more than an example of a structural problem; there are still many evictions," the Housing Union stressed in a statement. "The decree that should postpone evictions is not enough, as it only delays some redundancies and does not contain many casuistry. These people are not going to stay in the street: if it is not for what has been taken away from the bourgeois institution, it will be through the organization of classes; but do not hesitate, we will not leave our colleagues alone", they warned.
For this reason, they will demand the "paralysis of all evictions" in a demonstration that will start on Saturday, January 30, at 19:00 hours, from the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca.
Eviction balance
At the rally this Tuesday afternoon, the Housing Union took stock of the facts and brought them to the media: "Many police burdens, more than five wounded, three detainees, two people in the Aliens Services and fifteen people on the street.
In addition, images of the eviction operation have been collected on social networks and a video containing images has been published.
