The Spanish Government has begun the construction of the link between Vitoria (Álava) and Burgos of the High Speed Train (AVE), after the approval of the project in December, when the Council of Ministers approved yesterday the tender of the work. The project has already entered the competition. With a total distance of more than 96 kilometers, this link will connect with AHT Madrid and the AVE train. However, the whole route will be divided into five parts, and the works for the first part are now approved.
The first half is only about 8.4 kilometers long, but the cost will be huge: €2 billion, according to estimates by the Spanish Ministry of Transport. Apparently, the technical difficulties of the work are also great, since the railway will have to cross a mountainous area, just between the Pancorbo Breeze and the Orabenes Mountains. They also want to bid for the rest of the link this year.
Conditions of Slavery in the Works of the AAV
AHT Stop it! Summoned by the platform, last weekend there was a demonstration in Pamplona (Navarra) to denounce the miserable working conditions that workers who work in the construction works of the AVE have to endure. Since these works were launched, at least twelve workers in the Basque Country have lost their lives in these works.
