Although officially known as Basamortu Erandio Futbol Taldea, for the creators of this club is Basamortu Lagun Taldea the club that has just been founded. They are registered in the Federation and will play in the Third Division next season, provided that they can play normally. At the same time, they want to spread less common values in football, as Ander Olazabalaga explains to us.
Is it possible to tell your story briefly?
We created it in lockdown, but the idea had a year or a year and a half. The bottom line is that in Erandio, most of us play soccer at each one's school and then at a club. That's where you go, and all of a sudden you're up to the adults. So the goal is to get the best results, and in recent years it has happened that the people of the village lose the opportunity to play, because to improve the results, players are brought from outside and the village status is lost. The goal of creating a new club is for the people of the village to have a team to play here.
Who have you created it in particular?
There was a team in Erandio, adult category but Category B, with a crew with no aspirations to be Messi, playing for sport, which was very good and raised in category. A strong team spirit emerged, and Basamortu was created to be able to continue playing together, as they could not continue together through the usual channels. It is an issue that has always been thrown into the poteo, of which we have talked a great deal in the last year and a half. And it now emerges by taking advantage of the fact that the lockdown has given us too much time to make démarches. After a telematic meeting between those who had been commenting on the idea, we filled out the papers, entered the Federation and we are already officially the 3rd Bizkaia team. Players (I'm not one of them, only club member) are already on other teams (untrained, for pandemic), but next season they will be on Basakabu.
You mentioned other values. Which ones?
We want to do something different than the football model that is now more widespread. We have not created the team to be the best in Bizkaia or to raise it, but for the athletes of the people, in this case the players, to be together, and the club itself also make some contribution to the people: to boost the popular character, to give importance to the Basque... We also have that passion, because despite the minority we speak in Basque together, we have always known the world of Spanish football, at least in Erandio. We will try to speak in Basque in the direction and in the assemblies, and in the things that are done abroad, in the declarations, at least in bilingual, using a dignified level of Basque. We will also try to make the best use of the Basque language among the players and with the coach. We know it's hard because people are used to playing football in Spanish.
How many are they?
We have 20 people insured for the football team, and we're about seven more, those of us who are not players. Most of them are from Altzaga, some Astrabudugo as well. Two weeks ago we started the partner campaign, and we are already a hundred. It has to be said that we do not have money and that to start playing football we need a lot of money: inscriptions, equipment… the players have committed themselves and have put enough money for everyone to play. The intention is that the erandioztarras can play in Erandio, and although it is rare, it is not so easy today.
Where will you play?
In the camp of Arteaga, in the camp of Erandio. It's municipal. Yes, by the time we start training, we only have permission to do it from about 21:30 to 22:30 in the evening. There are many groups and there is no room.
What other plans do you have, besides playing football?
For example, participating in the party commission and doing other things throughout the year on the excuse of football. For example, days on football. Special days for children… More cultural activities. We still do not remember anything precise.
Why the name of desert?
"In Erandio there is a healthy pique," says Ander Olazabalaga, "or sometimes not so healthy: In that of Erandio, Altzaga has always been told Desert, and not in the best tone, because if it were neutral mean evil. We in Altzaga do not like that. To turn that around, and taking the name of the Desert, we decided to name the Desert as the group. We had thought about it for a long time.
