The football game was invented by the English with the name football. They say the ball game first appeared in ancient Greece and then in China. But the football we know today was organized with its rules in the second half of the 19th century. The first clubs also appeared at that time. There are more games that use a ball or a ball, of course, but I'm not going to start talking about everyone.
It is teams of eleven football players who play against the other eleven, with one ball as the only toy. To play you have to use your legs and body, but if you can't touch the ball with your hands if you're not goalkeeper. At this time, I'm not going to start explaining what football is, right? The most ruthless grandfather also knows what football is.
Who has never played football? I also played from 12 to 18, and I was rabid. It cannot be denied that this game also has its benefits as sport and personal development. I once heard Xabier Azkargorta, a doctor, a football player and a famous coach, that there are few games in which 22 players participate. And that's true. In my teaching times I saw a lot of boys and girls running behind a ball during breaks. In addition to sport, they form a group of games that work on understanding, work and cohesion between them. Respect for competition and control of competition are certainly being pursued.
But football is something else. In dance schools two boys and all the other girls, in schools two boys and all the other girls, where are the boys? Twice a week training football and Saturdays playing the game. Everyone wants to be a football player. We must also look at the efforts of parents on this issue. You have to see and hear the behavior of many parents at their son's Saturday football match: the most feeble offenses to the referee, the toughest ridges to players, the same as their son or daughter, and if you neglect, the confrontation between parents.
What about football? Is everything we're seeing and listening normal? What benefit does the human being have from all this? In times of dictatorships we said “Football, opium of the people”
But football is more: it's part of the myth. Whether Barça, Real Madrid, Betis or Athletic, all these clubs are myths and act as myths with their consequences. The football club is also a man's invention, an imaginary invention, it is not objective. Penicillin is also invented, but objective, real. Obtained through science. BMW, Mercedes, Ford auto are also creations created by the human imagination and myths since its creation. They're just some brands or attributes.
A week ago we saw people crying in Seville, in Córdoba and in many other Spanish capitals, due to the fall of the Easter processions due to the rain. Consequences of religious myth. “In the estuary of the Nervión de Bilbao, despite the bad weather, the procession will be made.”
When it comes to subjective imaginations, awake dreams are often difficult to manage and often have consequences: frustrations, depression, despair, etc. When the imagination built among many is intersubjective and extends to a large set of societies, the consequences are still greater. Thus arise religions, empires, nationalism, racism, dictatorships, capitalism, tourism, consumption, etc. Nobody knows how much money moves in these football clubs, including public money. “Let no one now think that, being a fan of a football team, the third world war will explode.” However, I am convinced that, in relation to football, the movement of matches and the associated expenses, create problems for many families.
To analyze all of this, it is necessary to take the distance – if not, go up to Artxanda – and look at people, what is generally observed and draw conclusions. What about football? Is everything we're seeing and listening normal? What benefit does the human being have from all this? In times of dictatorship we said “Football, the opium of the people”, which the people slept in political and social matters. And today?
I liked playing football and I'm still attracted to a ball, like a magnet, but the truth is that the football world doesn't like anything.
