Palestinian conflict and allegations of anti-Semitism spill over the Jaka Restan movement
- 20,000 people demonstrated on Tuesday "against hatred" in Paris at the 13th International Congress against Hatred, in protest at the anti-Semitic insults to which the philosopher Alain Finkielkraut was subjected last Saturday at a weekly rally called by Jaka Hori.
At the demonstration, organized by Jaka Hori, a 36-year-old man called the well-known “Zionist and Old Poop” philosopher. The questions have now emerged: Who's the offender? Who is it to? Why those insults against Finkielkraute?
It seems that there are statements made by the philosopher twelve years ago: through social media, Finkielkraute’s statements on the case of Palestine have been reopened – among other things, he said that children born in Gaza do not have “any place in the world”. However, these phrases, which put the media intellectual in an uncertain position, have gone into the background after being insulted by a yellow jacket.
At the demonstration on Tuesday, held in the Place of the Republic of Paris, a number of slogans emerged. One of them said the same thing.

The demonstration reminded some of what was done in 2015 to denounce the attack on Charlie Hebdo and others of the tribute to Johnny Hallyday. All politicians or “celebrities” were present: former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, among others, former PS member Benoît Hamon, environmentalist Yannick Jadot, communist Fabien Roussel, party president Les Républicains (LR) Laurent Wauquiez, Front-Saint-Saint-Gauko. Unquestionably, Emmauel Macron himself and his colleagues were present at the event, with the president in the lead.
The lyrics of Frantz Fanon and Simone Veil were remembered and songs of Georges Moustaki were sung in the Place of Jean Ferrat. The participants also recalled La Pasionaria.
In the center of all of them, a gap: Not a word from Marine Le Pen of the National Front (FN). A few weeks ago, a headline from the L’Express Weekly said: “The National Front is looking for a way to seduce the Jews.”
It's significant. The authors of the article cite numerous French politicians, including Finkielkraute’s attitude: “The philosopher keeps the same distance from the initiatives that can come from the FN.” On Tuesday, that distance became evident again.
