On Thursday, 9 November, the French State Council rejected the request by the Earth Uprising to ban the radical environmental movement. On 28 March, Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, began the dissolution procedure following protests against the giant growing skyscrapers of Sainte Solin (France), considering the movement as an “econumerous”. However, the environmental movement quickly resorted to it and this Thursday it is right in the document published by the French Council of State: “The Council of State considers that provocations against violence towards people cannot be imputed to the Earth Uprisings.”
The Council of State has argued that the legal exclusion established by the French Government is not moderate: “The dissolution of Land Uprisings is not an appropriate, necessary and proportionate measure to the gravity of conflicts that may affect public order.” The decision has been taken with satisfaction by the members of the Earth Uprising, stating that the actions of disobedience carried out by them have had a direct impact on the facts: “The decision shows that we can defend ourselves and win in the face of state repression.” In addition, they announce that they will continue their actions and announce a “mass mobilisation” against the gigantic crop reservoirs for next July.
“Good news for democracy”
The OSTIA network has “gladly” taken the decision of the Council of State to suspend the dismantling of the Earth Elevations and stressed that the French Government has received a “big deal”: “It is obsessed with crushing any kind of smuggling, the ecologist considers it a terrorist, seriously hurts the demonstrators and uses gigantic means to hunt militants.” He has welcomed the news both for democracy and for the protection of the environment.
