In the manifesto presented by the association for the memory of the victims of the Franco side, which has remembered that it has been 80 years since the end of the Civil War of 36 and 44 “since the death of the dictator”, it is time that in Spain “memory policies are managed differently. That they seek respect, coexistence and dialogue among the Spaniards”.
According to the new association, Franco forgot the victims of the losing group, but then, “democratic governments have forgotten the victims of the republican authority and the repressive militias, using memory sectarian”. As a result, they claim, they have sought confrontation among Spaniards, “making heirs of the Franco’s democratic political options” and giving “a supposed moral superiority” to some political projects.
The association states that it comes to “remember all victims” and, “starting from the moral rejection of all crimes”, they intend with the perspective of promoting history “a plural and integrative vision of our conflict, of its participants and of its reasons”.
Coinciding with the presentation, the historian of the Complutense University of Madrid Fernando del Rey gave a talk entitled: "Academic history, antidote to militant manipulation of the past."
A number of right-wing organizations have welcomed the initiative, including the Traditionalist Communion carlist. Navarre Confidential, the extreme right-wing media, has also been praised for the association and has remembered, among other things, "the dead in Navarre" for the bombings of Republican aircraft in Franco.
