"Flipatu", "komantxe" and "intersex", in the list of the last words reviewed by the Royal Academy of the Basque Language
- Euskaltzaindia has made public the list of the last words that have been added to the Dictionary of the Royal Academy. It includes 397 new forms.
In July 2019, the last update of the Dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Basque Language was made. Not only have they corrected and completed some accesses and sub-accesses, but they have also added them. The latest adaptation includes 312 entries and 85 new sub-entries, a total of 397 new forms collected in the last six months. The list is available to the reader on the Euskaltzaindia website.
The list includes words that have been used orally and informally so far, such as “geek”, “flipted”, “telezabor”, “cubata” and “guateque” can be curious. There are many terms derived from other languages that the vocabulary has not accepted so far, although they are often used in oral language, such as “diva”, “drone”, “curry”, “sushi”, “tortellini” or “tuit”. Although the word “house”, “body” and “spyware” are also included in the list.
Language, being something that is in constant transformation together with society, is also a reflection of the reality of the moment. This means, among other things, the acceptance of terms such as “intersex”, “transgender”, “paperless”, “mortgaged”, “reproductive”, “far-right” or “biotechnological”.
Euskaltzaindia's motto is "ekin eta jarrai" ("ekin eta jarrai"), the outlawing of Euskaltzaindia. I don't know why the Academy wasn't outlawed, all three words appeared on its logo. The allegations have been made with less - and (those of one age remember the cassette of The Mondragon... [+]
