The Public Prosecutor's Office raises to nine years the request for punishment of former PNV Bravo senator for fraud
- The trial of former PNV senator and former director of the Gipuzkoa Treasury, Víctor Bravo, has ended on Thursday. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has raised from six to nine years the request for imprisonment against him for a fraud offence of EUR 1.4 million.
At the end of the trial, the Prosecutor ' s Office and the Spanish State Attorney have proved the fraud committed by Víctor Bravo. Both agree that Bravo and a partner of the company Glass Costa Este Salou of Tarragona scammed the company through the establishment of the tax residence in Gipuzkoa and the use of tax advantages. On the one hand, the company had no real activity in the territory of Gipuzkoa. On the other hand, recognizing the special status of entrepreneur, it paid benefits to 1 per cent, rather than the 28 per cent to be taxed by law.
Bravo's participation and knowledge were fundamental to be able to commit the fraud, according to the accusations: It would be a scam of the time when he was senator of the PNV, but before he had been director of the Gipuzkoan Treasury between 1992 and 2003. It has been found that he personally kept the dossier of a fraudulent company in the "manager's closet" so that no inspector beyond his control could obtain it.
The Prosecutor ' s Office has raised from six to nine years the request for provisional imprisonment filed against Bravo by the National Court. It also calls on the Gipuzkoan Treasury to repay EUR 1.4 million (which is allegedly stolen, and interest). The Spanish State lawyer asked for nine years in prison for Bravo before the start of the trial, in addition to a fine of EUR 1.8 million, and has kept his petition.
Along with Bravo, Fernando Isidoro González, administrator of the company Glass Costa and partner of Bravo, has been tried during these days. The Public Prosecutor's Office has reduced his request for a prison sentence against the young Sevillian man from six to four and a half years. Gonzalez has placed a million euros in the court before the trial begins, so the Prosecutor’s Office has applied him the attenuating of guilt. The State attorney has kept the petition for nine years in prison for the defendant.
The defendant ' s defenses, for their part, have claimed his innocence. The trial has ended at Donostia-San Sebastian Criminal Court No. 1, and the parties are awaiting sentencing.
