For more inclusive parties, there will be no music in the barracks during the two evenings of the festivities
- On 27 and 31 July, from 17:00 to 19:00 hours, the City Hall and the Blue Tide Association have decided not to put music in the patio of Betharrameta, so that children with special needs enjoy the barracks. In addition, the City Hall has set up a number of cards for people with special needs to have a preference in the barracks.
Following the agreement reached between the Azpeitia City Hall and the Blue Tide association, on the evenings of 27 and 31 July there will be no music in the barracks area. The decision not to put music in the Betharram patio from 17:00 to 19:00 hours has been made so that boys and girls with special needs can enjoy the barracks. In addition, in order for people with special needs to take precedence in the barracks, the City Hall has set up a number of cards. The cards may be requested from the City Hall Citizen Service.
People with functional diversity have hypersensitivity to noise, light and loud music, and both the City Hall and the Blue Tide point out that in areas like the barracks are usually "very nervous". With the decision to remove music, Mikel Odriozola, president of the Festival Commission, said that "it will facilitate the passage in live music" to those who, although they like it, have a bad time: "We believe that through this small gesture you can carry out a nice awareness-raising action," he added. As Odriozola explained, the measure they have taken is an action "as simple as significant" that has no place. "At parties we also have to be inclusive and through this action, we will face a reality. In addition, we will all become more aware of the difficulties faced by people with functional diversity and their families," explained the president of the Festival Commission. For his part, Odriozola thanked those responsible for the barracks who "from the beginning" understood the objective of the project and did not put any impediment.
Aritz Orbegozo, member of the association Marea Azul, congratulated and thanked the Azpeitia City Hall: "It was the City Hall that proposed the project to us, and we took it with an open hand. It is a source of satisfaction that the City Hall shows sensitivity and agrees with us at the parties". According to him, the place where the barracks are located is "uncomfortable": "Children want to go to the barracks, but in the end it becomes an uncomfortable place; music and noise stress children, we have difficulty being in line and instead of having a good time they become a place of stress." Orbegozo has stated that in the area it does not know of any such project, "not even in Gipuzkoa". Therefore, he considered that the measure taken by the municipality of Azpeitia will also be "exemplary" for the rest of the municipalities of the region.
