The day after the elections, mass demonstrations took place in several Andalusian cities around the world. Under the motto “They will not pass” and “outside the fascism of our neighborhoods”, thousands of people have gone to the streets to denounce the rise of the Vox party and fascism.
Málaga, Sevilla and Granada are the places where most people concentrated: 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 citizens respectively. In the latter, the youngest had the leading role. Most of them were students, and some media outlets have pointed out that they filled the streets with flags of the Republic and anti-fascist symbols. Camping in Granada.
Significant declarations and demands were made in Seville: “Don’t forget to change the time, at two in the morning it will be 1936” and “380,000 Andalusians have voted, among others, the rebuttal of García Lorca”.
Rise of the right
This is the second time that participation has fallen by 60% since 1982. In 1990, only 54% voted and now only 56.6%. Once again, the Socialists have imposed themselves, but not with an absolute majority, as they have lost 400,000 votes. It is envisaged that the possible agreement to form government will be between three parties on the right: The pp has won 26 seats, Citizens 21 and the ultra-right Vox 12. The majority is in 55 seats, compared with the 59 expected from the sum of the three territories.
The results of the Sunday elections exceeded all expectations. The government of Susana Díaz was expected to fall, but under no circumstances could the loss of 400,000 votes be predicted. However, the PSOE remains the most voted party and Díaz will try to form government. “Although we have lost many votes I am not going to leave office, I represent the majority of Andalusians,” said Susana Díaz.
