Ezkerra undertakes to take into account Euskera for public positions in Tudela
- Ezkerra has stated that he will recognize the Basque "at least" the same value as the other languages other than Spanish and has ensured that he will comply with the Ararteko recommendation in September.
Ezkerra is committed to recognising Euskera in competitions for municipal public jobs in Tudela (Navarra). "The Ombudsman of Navarra deserves our full respect and consideration," the party said in a joint statement.
In May last year the City Council held a public call for the post of Deputy Inspector of the Municipal Police. Knowledge in English, Spanish or German had a value of five points. The knowledge of the Basque Country, on the contrary, is zero.
The representative of Administrazioa Euskaraz, Joseba Otano, came to the Ombudsman of Navarra, arguing that “knowledge of the Basque Country is valued less than knowledge of foreign languages”. Ararteko Francisco Javier Eneriz asked the mayor, Eneko Larrarte, not to value less the knowledge of the Basque than that of foreign languages.
Upon receiving the Ararteko's note, Larrarte responded that it was not mandatory to assess the knowledge of the Basque country.
