Axun, who is about to turn 35, is the protagonist of the film. Believing that he has inherited a family curse, he's long drifted, trapped by the fear of knowing what the future holds. Although he does not believe in the curses, he escapes the misfortune he believes he received from his mother to have an answer prepared. Her partner is the grandmother, who confesses the concerns caused by the ghosts of her interior. But grandma has other interests, the only one, to tell the truth, because she spends her days tied to a Mexican radio novel, tied in a short chain.
It is a fresh work that lasts about an hour. A boat shaped tub, a beautiful radio from the last century and the ranches are the elements that, at first glance, will attract the attention of the public, as you see nothing else about the stage. It is worth mentioning that, although it is a work of few props and actors, the sensation transmitted by the stage is very rich and rich: each element has a reason and Curiel occupies the space perfectly, giving each character its place.
In the first few minutes it can be thought that this is a theater play of superficial themes, which presents to the public a character of indifferent character as soon as the play begins. However, as it progresses, many edges appear and intergenerational genealogy gains weight: the emotional influence of what we receive from our ancestors in people or the “false desire” that women should feel around 35 years of being mothers, among other things. Humor is the engine of the relationship between history and grandma and grandson, and you can see that there's a lot of work behind it. Audience laughter was heard from start to finish.
Esti Curiel started the project with the intention of “empowering”. For a long time, he wished to face such a challenge, to create, produce and interpret a play from scratch, gave him strength to undertake. She has had the collaboration of Miren Gojenola and Aitziber Garmendia, one of the directors, while the other is in charge of refining the text. With three professionals of this kind you could hardly get anything of low quality, and the result is not the opposite, as they have made a show that we liked to see, putting emotions and successions in the centre.
