The Basque Government took the lead in all the stabilisation and control work on the landfill since the landfill waste fell on 6 February, due to the company’s lack of capacity to do so.

The invoice for the first block to be paid by the company includes the stabilization of the sliding and the generation of safe slopes that allow the search for the two missing workers, the opening of access to urgent work points, the control of the environmental and health impact of the population, the control and extinction of the fire by heavy machines and the cooperation of air resources, the creation of safety deposits for the waste or the design of the groundwater control network.

To date, the Environment Department has carried out landfill sites worth EUR 9 million.

The Ertzaintza has found traces of crime

The news was published in the journal “El Correo” and subsequently received by the news agency Efe. According to the report presented by the Ertzaintza in the court, the newspaper has found evidence of criminality in the management of the company Verter Recycling in the landfill, which has been closed down. Ertzaintza has on several occasions identified irregularities in the management of waste collected in an unauthorised manner. The report estimates that there are indications of two offences. On the one hand, he is convicted of a crime against the environment by putting the natural environment and people’s health at serious risk. On the other hand, it says that action has been taken against workers' rights.

4 months after the disappearance of Beltrán and Sololuze

On 6 June, four months have passed since the workers disappeared from the landfill Joaquín Beltrán and Alberto Sololuze. On that day, mobilizations were carried out, inter alia, to demand the discovery of the bodies of the two workers.
