Among young people, only contents are consumed in Basque in ETB and in the Primeran platform
- The questionnaire, carried out by Ikusiker Ikusentzunezkoak and the Basque Audiovisual Observatory to 2,800 students from the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU) and the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), reveals that in digital platforms young people do not consume content in Basque. Screen has asked the Basque Government and ETB to make the movement and reflect in Euskera and has been "concerned" about it.
Ikusiker has questioned about 2,800 students from the UPV/EHU and the UPNA. Almost half of these students never consume television in Basque.
There are more and more Basque content on digital platforms, but there are still differences with other languages. In September 2023, a platform was created that will give importance to the contents in Basque: Great. But according to Ikusiker's report, this platform in Basque is consumed very little. The study reveals that although young people consume more content on digital platforms, only 1% of young people see them in Euskera.
Most students who have participated in the study consume television and digital platforms in Spanish. A quarter of this sample consumes audiovisual media in English on platforms. However, English loses strength on television and Euskera has more weight in this medium among students who have responded to the questionnaires. Those who have Euskera as the first language also see much more content in Spanish and English.
ETB and the Basque Government call for ETB and the Basque Government to reflect on 'Brexit'
Screens Euskaraz has been “concerned” about the results of the report. It has therefore asked the Basque Government and ETB to reflect on the situation of audiovisual media in Basque.
The Screens in Euskera are a movement created by different initiatives and public agents and composed by: Dinsey Euskaraz, Netflix Euskaraz, Zinemak Euskaraz and Game Erauntsia are citizen initiatives, and Tinko Euskara and the associations of Euskaldunes Bieuse. They are concerned about the low presence of Euskera in the world of multiple audiovisual displays and intend, among other objectives, to achieve "a future in Euskera".
