100 subtitles in Basque have been added to the Filmin streaming platform
- In recent months, the Screens Euskaraz initiative and the Spanish streaming platform Filmin have collaborated, which has enabled the platform to incorporate more than 100 subtitles in Euskera into its catalog. These are subtitles from different sources, among them those created by volunteers for the web Azpitituluak Euskaraz.
Here is the Basque content catalog of Filmin (the interface is in Spanish). In this list of 256 contents, the 100 increments correspond to subtitles. Filmin previously had other contents, especially Basque production, with audio and subtitles in Basque.
After the expansion, Filmin is currently the platform that offers the most content in Basque. From other streaming platforms, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix make doubles and subdivisions in Euskera, for example, the 4th season of the interesting The Boys series that is now being broadcast in Prime Video. Disney Plus and Max (known as HBO or HBO Max) completely reject Basque content. Then there are the Basque public platforms, created at the initiative of EITB, with contents for Primeran in general and for Makusi in children, where in practice everything is in Basque.
Many of the subtitles of the films to which the Basque language of Filmin has been added were and are available on the Euskera Subtitles website. For example, the trilogy Back to the Future, Catalan Estiu 1993, that of Ida Pawel Pawlikowski voluntarily translated into Basque by Maialen Sobrino and Ander Gortazar, or the pair of contributions by the writer Josu Goikoetxea, Vertigo Hitchcock and In the Mood for Love Waiwong Karxea.
