"We want to understand the world in Basque, what happened, our time, who will come"
- 28 publishers and eight record labels will meet this Saturday at the Ziburu Fair. Among them is the editorial Igela, from Pamplona. We talked to Lander Majuelo, editor of Igela.
One more year you will be in Ziburu. Why are you interested in this fair?
The book fair in Ziburu was more than interesting. They always welcome us as friends, better than good. Even though the fair is only in Euskera and we are the only ones who make books in Euskera, it is a fair that we very much appreciate. We especially enjoyed our books with attendees.
While searching for information about the Rana editorial, I found the following tweet: "In Nafarroa Garaia there is only one editorial that publishes all the books in Basque. Congratulations Rana." What objective or political reading do we have behind that choice?
The Basque Country and the Basque literature will not advance in their path. We suffer from the drowning of the great languages; it is noted in the customs of the Basque readers, in the narrow day to day of writers, publishers, printers and Basque libraries. We want to understand the world in Basque, what happened, our time, what will come. We have to bring to us the literatures of large territories, if not limited to the Basque being a mere language to understand the affairs of the Basque Country. That's why we only publish in Basque, so we publish translated texts from other languages only.
What is the main challenge of Basque publishers and what can the Fair of Ziburu and the literature enthusiasts who are approaching contribute to?
I cannot speak on behalf of others. I believe, as far as it can go, that books in Basque have a fundamental responsibility in dissipating and disseminating the desires and fears of those who work in this small language. Because it is very difficult to discuss precisely and clearly what has not been read before, because it is almost impossible to associate what has not been read before what is our day to day. Same in love or politics. Books in Basque can be a passport for a better life if we wish.
What news will bring us?
We present the black novel Alexander Wolfen mamua of the Russian Gaito Gazdanov, translated by Josu Zabaleta and the historic Brumairia essay of Luis Bonaparte of Karl Marx translated by Idoia Santamaría.

Four txokos of Euskal Herria
Whoever goes to the Ziburu Fair will cause the last harvest of Basque literature. In fact, the 28 editorials come with the objective of sending the latest publications. Saturday will be in Ziburu: Alberdania; Argia; Berria; Bertsolari aldizkaria; Sé; Eguzki Loreak; Publications Service UPV/EHU; Elkar-Ttarttalo; Erein; Castles of Euskal Herria; Euskaltzaindia; Gara; Gatuzain; Marizzet; Poetry Catacras; Lapurdi 1609; Mayo; Pamiela; Susa; Txalaparta; UEU; Xabiroi; Zortziko; CTCC.
In addition to books, disks will also be caused, being the record house where it will be located: Adar, Baga Biga Prod, Valen, Oreja, Kalapita Prod. Love, Usopop and the Su Ta Gar group. In addition, groups Adrian Pérez, Nice de Patxu e Ixabe will offer short concerts to make their last album known. As a presentation of books, the organizers Baltsan and ARGIA seek to accommodate musical creation.
