Parents of children's schools in Pamplona draw the desert of the Basque Country
- On the map of children's schools in Pamplona you have to look north to find children's schools that offer a model of immersion in Basque. The Haur Eskoletako Gurasoak platform has defended the Basque teaching model and denounced the situation of geographic exclusion.
Four neighbourhoods in green appear on the map: Casco Viejo, San Jorge, Rochapea and Chantrea. They are the only schools that are willing to offer this course throughout Pamplona. The Txantrea will also be the only center that will have a model of linguistic immersion in Basque. The other three neighborhoods will have a mixed area, that is, with lines in Basque and Spanish.
The map shows eleven other neighbourhoods except Buztintxuri, the rest are located east, west and south of the capital. The platform has pointed out that, in addition to the number of places offered in Euskera, the geographic location of the schools is important, and they have considered it necessary to be able to register in Euskera if not in the same neighborhood: “If it is not in the neighborhood of each family, they cannot deny us the possibility of enrolling in the Basque country next door. It is not easy to cross the city from one end to the other to get a place in Basque for children 0-3 years old. Among our contacts we have families who, desperately, have had to go to Spanish”.
The platform has asked the Autonomous Children's Schools Agency of the City of Pamplona and the Social Services of the Government of Navarra to put aside geographical exclusion and design a new map. The Autonomous Children's Schools Agency of the City of Pamplona is about to meet.

20% reduction to promote Basque
The Euskalgintza association of Pamplona/Iruña has denounced the final decision of the City of Pamplona. The plenary session on 20 October ratified that EUR 18,000 of the EUR 90,000 for projects to promote the Basque country will be deleted. Argument: decrease in the number of events in the state of alarm. The Basque Cultural Association of Pamplona considers that the excuse is cheap: “The objective of this Euskarafoba attitude is for the Basque offer to disappear. The Municipal Police Officer of Pamplona/Iruña has given an example of this cut. He recalled that in the ordinance adopted in December 2019 the City of Pamplona made it clear that “it was not in favour of promoting Euskera as a local language, nor of properly guaranteeing the linguistic rights of all the citizens of Pamplona”.
