“It is very important that this social energy that Korrika has shown is also in Euskaraldia.” This was highlighted by AEK coordinator Alicia Iribarren at the presentation of the Euskaraldia social initiative last Monday in Donostia. They have shown the connection between the two initiatives in favor of the Basque Country, going from one to the other, and invite the citizens to participate actively in the dynamics. It will be from 18 November to 2 December under the slogan "Euskaraldia Hitzekin Garaia", but the coordinator of the initiative Goiatz Urkijo has announced that presentations are already being made in different municipalities and has encouraged citizens to participate "actively" in the organizational commissions.
The leaders reaffirm that the year 2022 is “the year of the word and action” and stress that the pandemic has highlighted the need for “transformative language practices of speakers” and “firm steps of organizations of all kinds” in the normalization of Euskera. Therefore, Urkijo stressed that in order to follow the “wave of the Basque Country” that Korrika has risen, Euskaraldia must be used: “To continue taking steps in the use of the Basque Country, in the universalization of knowledge and in the extension of comfortable spaces for the Basque Country”.
In addition to focusing on the activation of individuals and the change of linguistic habits that will participate as guests and ears, the leaders of Euskaraldia have given importance to the “concrete measures” that the institutions must adopt; they have asked the entities to promote the linguistic practices in Basque. In particular, 18 May opens the deadline for the entities to register in the Basque Country Aldia, and on 29 September the deadline to register in it.
Euskaraldia comes back. Apparently, it will be in the spring of next year. They have already presented it and the truth is that it has surprised me; not Euskaraldia himself, but his motto: We'll do it by moving around.
