Euskera, once again in attack
As on many occasions, the Basque Country has been hit hard by the long-known agents. CCOO resorted to the public competition held by the City of Barakaldo in 2021, because in one of the conditions established therein a minimum level of Euskera was required for subcontracted service personnel. Of course, there are no surprises when the hammer of justice has hit those of forever: The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country agrees with the union. CCOO is of the opinion that the most reasonable would be the linguistic profile depending on the number of Euskaldunes, that the City Council has not argued the linguistic profiles and that the same linguistic profiles cannot be imposed on public and private employees.
In other words, the rights of the Basques must be well motivated or will not be admitted. On the other hand, the fact that all the rights of the Castilian speakers are enshrined in law is quite natural, but attempts to guarantee the rights of the Basques are presented as an imposition. Finally, the relationship of the Basques with the public institutions and the services we receive from them in Basque will depend on the number of speakers from each place. In short, if rights exist to the extent that the law recognizes and protects them, the status of Basque or Euskaldun will depend on the situation, quantity and reasoning of the moment.

They want us to believe that the measure is not contrary to the Basque Country in the attempt to control the story of the aggression. Those who love the Basque people, who participate in the Basque Country, that the measures in favour of the Basque country lead many times to hate the Basque people, who are talking about improving the workers, etc. I mean, the slogans that always walk after every attack. Most seriously, the message that we Basques repeatedly receive: we are second-level citizens who are in permanent conflict with basic language law.
The collectivity, the people, the nation … let each give it the name they prefer, but let us speak clearly: oppression is what lives us. Let us remember more than ever that the Basque Country is our only free territory. For us to continue living in Basque, which is the greatest resistance action of the Basques.
