The Basque Country Selekzioa is now preparing to support the pelotaris who renounce the selections of France or Spain
- The Basque Country Selekzioa Orain held its first general meeting at the Makea in Lapurdi. Fifteen pelotaris from Ipar Euskal Herria who announced last summer their renunciation to play with the French team today complete the initiative which aims, among others, to make known their opinion in favour of the Basque selection, which will host the seven countries.
Pelotaris Amaia Larralde, Jon Larronde and Eñaut Etxeberria have been in charge of broadcasting the live match for ETB-1. At the press conference they also referred to the decision taken by the International Football Federation of the Basque Country on 28 December as a full member: "It is incredible that the official status of the Euskadi Selection has been acknowledged, but those of us who are not from the CAV still have questions. What are we going to do in Navarre, Zuberoa, Baja Navarra and Lapurdi? What are the conditions? ", Larralde asked. As explained by the members of the Euskal Selekzioa Orain association, the results of the elections that the Basque Football Federation will be holding on 25 January will in part mark the steps to be taken.
They have added that they want to support young people who refuse to play with the selections of France and Spain, not least because the pelotaris who refuse to play with France have been expelled from the training sessions organized by the French Federation. In this regard, Jon Larrondo explained that they want to create a training centre for the Basque selection that "supports" young people and allows them to continue training at the highest level. Midfielder Xare has made it clear, for his part, that they do not want to "face" "any other team nor any of their players": "We will never criticize or judge the pelotari who chooses to play with the Spanish or the French team. We hope that they too understand our struggle."
