The Italian city of Cesena has been inspired by what was done three years ago to implement this project. In July 2015, more than 1,000 musicians gathered in this city, with whom they played a song from the Foo Fighters group. The aim was for the American group to play in Cesena and the initiative was carried out with the intention of doing so.
Not only that, it had a huge echo in the media and social networks, and since then Rockin’1000 has been going on, playing concerts in Italy and abroad and organizing other projects, such as special rock colonies.
The Esker 1000 initiative has been launched inspired by this project, but in the case of Euskal Herria the objectives are other: to pay tribute to the Basque rock, to publicize the Basque culture, to gather musicians from all over the nation and to network among them.
The initiative starts this month, but it is not a one-season flower: By the end of 2019, they want to host a show where 1,000 musicians will play 11 songs. It is a spectacle that aims to merge music and audio-visual.
In 2020, we intend to present a documentary that takes up the trajectory of the project and pays special attention to the Basque diaspora. To do so, they will bring the work done to the Jaialdi festival that unites the Basque community in Boise, United States.
The organizers have stressed that this is a project aimed at “all”: professional musicians, amateurs and self-taught from all generations, both here and abroad. The activities to be organised within Esker 1000 will also be varied and will be aimed at a broad audience.
