The Basque Wikilaris Association has put 10,000 more registers on the internet to identify the heritage of the Basque Country
- They have been identified on a map to participate in the world photography competition WikiLoves Monuments of the built heritage, which can be one of the heritage elements of the place.
When in 2017 he started organizing the WLM photo competition, the Cultural Association of Basque Wikilaris realized that there were few monuments on the list (217 in Iparralde and 433 in Hego Euskal Herria). In an article published in Wikimedia.eus Galder Gonzalez explains the steps they have taken to add thousands of items to this list.
Among others, they have used data from the web of the Basque Government or the list of megalitos sponsored by the Government of Navarra and added 10,000 items to the map to participate in the competition – now you can identify where the Camino de Santiago goes. The WLM competition will start on Sunday and you can check the instructions to participate in it via Twitter.
A diagram of the municipalities with the highest number of protected heritage elements has also been made. Pamplona is the one that has the most, followed by Baztan, for the number of megaliths:
Beyond the competition, they have other objectives when it comes to organizing lists of the built heritage. For example, to know which buildings of interest are in each town to promote “domestic tourism” and to have more possibilities of protection through the publication and dissemination of heritage lists: “Every year the buildings that are protected by themselves are demolished, and that shouldn’t happen,” González explained in the article.
