The Ecosocial Leaps in the II Basque Country Ecotourism has taken place in Arrasate.Over the course of three days, it has been explained that more than 200 people have come together, which makes it clear that the concern about the "ecosocial and ecological emergency" in the Basque Country is important. They have also announced that they have joined the meetings from different places, such as Mallorca, Catalonia, Andalusia and the French State. It has also been an opportunity for members of the Northern Basque Country to learn from their trajectory in ecology.
On Friday, in fact, the issue of food sovereignty was addressed from an ecofeminist perspective. At the same time, young people talked about the continuation in the Basque Country of the Fridays For Future movement that had begun worldwide before the pandemic. And in this context, what ecosocialist proposals were offered by Arran and Salto.
It is said that the "big day" was on Saturday, which was the most crowded. In the morning, there was a debate about what to do with the industry in the Basque Country, "change so that the working class can lead," and there the issue of energy was also addressed. In parallel, another round table focused on the problems posed by the transport sector. At noon, it was possible to hear that "tourism lives at the expense of the population", "and not vice versa", in a colloquium focused on the eco-social consequences of tourism. The "reflection on the joint strategy" to address all this closed the day.
Beyond reflection, they have revealed that they also had a space for recreation: "Friday ended the day with a verse dinner and, in the early hours of Saturday, an excursion was made to discover the destructive projects that have been linked to the construction of Mondragón." In the evening there were concerts at the Arrasate Youth Center, Mikosis and Ezez! By the team. It is stated that meals and dinners were provided by the consumer association Ereindajan Arrasate. To end the meetings, the Ecosocial Leap held an open meeting to assess the weekend and to imagine a roadmap for the near future.
The final review was positive: That the challenge of the time has served to continue strengthening the new ecological movement that needs it and to marvel at the next steps of the emerging actor."
