A man called the 24-year-old Samuel Luis Muñiz "maricón" and hit him violently in La Coruña (La Coruña). Shortly afterwards they returned with another twelve people and gave him a deadly beating. In response to those questioning that the murder has a homophobic basis and calling for the aggressors not to go unpunished, mobilizations have been carried out this Monday in many cities of the Spanish State, also in Hegoalde. For Samuel, Xustiza for Samuel, the street has been filled with demands of justice for Samuel.

Accomplices of hatred

“Such attacks are a direct consequence of the rise of hate speech, with the complicity of politicians and the media giving them a voice. To whitewash their faces, institutions and companies participate in the festival of diversity, but do nothing to stop the rise of fascism and bring to debate the lives of transgender people or the need to educate in diversity, giving wings to fascism”, denounced the Euskal Herria sexual liberation movement EHGAM.

The associations of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bixesuales and Intersexuals of Gehitu have put in the city center “the LGBTBIphobic discourses of some political and social groups”.

The collective of Affective and Sexual Freedom of A Coruña ALAS A CORUÑA has highlighted the fear because “any of us could be”. They say that having a pen means getting terrified into the street, “we cannot allow the feathers to lead people to death.”

Unpunished flocks

In conclusion, Iñigo Martínez and Juanan Larrañaga will comment that the aggressors are “always the same flocks.” “They attack at night because it bothers them to dare to be as we are and to dress as we want.” “They are heterosexual, macho, homophobic and transphobic men, protected by patriarchy. They don’t kill us because of our tendency, because of our identity, because of the expression…, they kill us because of their LGBT phobia and misogyny, because they feel they can do so,” EHGAM said.

In this sense, Gehitu has recalled that, beyond media coverage cases, most aggressions are not investigated and aggressors are left unpunished.

Education and struggle

That's why it's so important to educate in values, rather than look for hate speech, and Gehitu has focused on education. The same as GIRLS, referring to the campaign that some make for messages of diversity from schools: “LGBTI movements do not indoctrinate, we educate in human rights, diversity and equality.”

“It is up to us to continue to organize our anger, to create anti-patriarchal alliances, to build strong networks, to feed the collectives to keep fighting, not to take a step back. Let there be no unanswered aggression, let them listen to us, let them see us proud and let them be afraid,” says EHGAM firmly.

Concentration in Pamplona

There are also demonstrations this Tuesday. The LGBT+ groups in Navarre have called a concentration at 20:00 hours in the Plaza del Castillo de Pamplona, under the motto “Self-defense is the only way”.
