Prisoners and exhuids call to continue fighting for the right to freedom in Euskal Herria

The manifesto was read by journalists Jokin Etxebarria and Saroia Galarraga at the end of the manifesto.
Ex-prisoners and exiles also want to believe that the release of Frederic Xistor Haramburu at the end of 2020 reflects "a new perspective" on the issue of eta prisoners. However, they are clear: "A possibility has been opened, but we must continue to mobilise," he said. The departure of Haramburu from prison is the result of the mobilization, activation and decision of the political and social majority of Ipar Euskal Herria.
They say that 2021 will have to bring the release of Jakes Esnal, Ion and Unai Parot, who entered the 31st year of prison, as well as the return home of sick prisoners.
COVID-19 difficult years
They report that the COVID-19 epidemic has had negative effects on Basque prisoners and their families: "The health measures that have been imposed in prison have increased isolation, with the reduction or suspension of visits," he added. At the beginning of the health crisis, the French Government promised to release thousands of prisoners, but "under the guise of anti-terrorist legislation", the liberations were not intended for Basque prisoners. The "even more unacceptable" decision was considered "unacceptable" in the case of Ibon Fernández Iradi, with multiple sclerosis, who tested positive for COVID-19 and Jon Gurutz Maiza, who this year turns 70.
"The proliferation of social control in relation to the measures taken during confinement reminds us that our freedom is limited and is questioned at all times." Precisely, as ex-prisoners and exiles, the time of COVID-19 is also being violent. In recent weeks, arrests of ex-prisoners on roadside checks have been frequent: As an example we have the cases of Igor Uriarte, Jon Irazola, Peio Alcantarilla and Oier Oa.
