The Basque College denounces the situation of three Basque political prisoners
- In a motion against the decision of the French justice system, the Commonwealth complains about the “death penalty” being imposed on Esnal, Haranburu and Parot.
A text signed by Jean-René Etchegaray has denounced the seriousness of the situation created by the refusal of the Dei de Paris court to grant conditional release to the prisoner Jakes Esnal on 24 September.
The administrative unit of Ipar Euskal Herria has tabled a motion against this motion, which has received no votes against. It was only debated about the use of the word “execution”, in fact, to assess the denial of Jakes Esnal’s demand by the school that used that meaning. The electorate of Baiona Martine Bisauta and the neighbour of Hendaia Kotte Ecenarro have taken the view that the letter does not deserve any change. They said they would defend her unchanged. Mathieu Berg, for his part, called for a small change in the concept of the “death penalty”. The latter has been adopted.
The letter has been sent to the Ministry of Justice of the French Republic. Previously, however, some of the voters had lodged a complaint, despite basically agreeing with the text. Alain Duzert of PCF regretted that Etchegaray presented the text without warning: “I defend it without knowing what my party thinks.”
“The ball is in the Elysée’s court, because this vote shows that in Ipar Euskal Herria there is a fast and stable majority so that these three people who have served 30 years in prison can return home and ask for a way out,” said Anaiz Funosas, president of Bake Bidea, on the Naiz portal.
