Composition of the European Parliament by provisional results
- With the provisional results of the European elections on Sunday in hand, the graph above shows how the European Parliament would look. The conservative bloc of the European People’s Party (EPP) remains the leader, but will move from 221 seats to 180 in the last year. Something similar has happened to the Social Democrats, who are the second force, although they now have 146 of the 191 delegates they had in 2014.
The polls suggested that this fall of the two main blocs could be exploited by the extreme right, but for the time being the situation has been exploited by the Greens (19 more) and above all by the Liberals (42 more). In any case, the space on the right of traditional conservatism is growing: The results of Italy and France indicate that the extreme right comes to grips; and other aspects that are not classified on this label in many media, such as Fidesz for Hungary or PiS for Poland, also dominate their countries. Conversely, the leftist parties grouped in the GUE/NGL group have opted for a downward trend in the following elections: It's gone from 52 to 39 representatives.
