Trade unions and student organizations have protested at the adoption in Parliament of the law allowing the creation of Euneiz
- EAJ-PNV, PSE, PP-Citizens and VOX, among others, have voted in favour of the law and allow, among other things, to finance the private project with public money.
The Basque Parliament has passed the law on the integration of the private university Euneiz into the Basque University System, together with the UPV/EHU and the private universities of Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Deusto. In favour, EAJ-PNV, PSE, PP-Citizens and Vox voted, and against EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Van-IU voted.
Likewise, LAB, STEILAS, CCOO, ELA, CGT/LKN, ESK, the Council of Students of the UPV/EHU and Ernai have concentrated under the motto “Euneis unibertsitatea elitista gelditu!”.
The unions and student organizations have denounced that this new university for profit "can request and receive public money", and have pointed out the responsibility of EAJ-PNV, PSE, PP-Citizens and Vox and the "decisive support" of the Provincial Council of Álava, the City Hall of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Basque Government.
‘While the funding that the public university receives annually from the CAPV budgets is not sufficient to ensure quality university education and decent working conditions for all staff’, they consider it unacceptable for a private and elitist university to receive this money.
Euneiz private university
In 2017, the directors of the research centers Querejeta, Ramiro González, Gorka Uraran and EUSES and ENTI presented the private university project Euneiz.
Since then, trade unions, students and other groups and individuals have denounced the character of this university: for its pretensions of profit, for its elitist character (largely aimed at students from wealthy foreign families and for the price of tuition around 8000 euros), for not being able to guarantee the lack of consideration of the Basque Country and decent working conditions for workers.
