The work of home caregivers in Goizueta, on International Day
- On Saturday, 22 December, International Women’s Day was held in Goizueta (Bizkaia). It was as special as a memorable event and many people approached the organized celebration to approach countries such as Nicaragua, Honduras or Brazil.
To start the festival, Maite Perurena, a social worker of Social Services, and a technique of social integration, coordinated the space of testimonies. It was possible to hear the testimonies of women from Nicaragua and Honduras who work in the care of the elderly in our homes and, thus, they knew more about the twelve women protagonists of the festival. Through simple and friendly words, they told their experiences and sensations.
As if it were not enough, there were also surprises. For example, the hymn of her country sung by four Honduran women and the traditional dance danced by another Nicaraguan. In addition to words of affection and gratitude, the City of Goizueta wanted to value their work and distributed a memory to each of them, valuing the care work carried out by these women from outside and thanking the service they provide in the town.
They finished the festival around the table, tasting dishes and beverages from Honduras, Brazil and Nicaragua, all cooked by themselves with great enthusiasm. And of course, there was also music from South America and Central America.
