A homeless person dies in Hendaia
- On Tuesday, at the port of Kaneta in Hendaia, is the corpse of a 50 year homeless man. They investigate the death of man. This year is the second homeless person to have died in the Basque Country.

The Berria newspaper has announced that Françoise Theux of the Atherbea association knew the man as a regular user of the entity’s services in Baiona. Theux explains to Berria that man has not only died in cold weather, but was used to receiving help from the association.
Jeremie Martin, head of the Hendaia Field Service office, has pointed out to the Naiz portal that “many times they will find difficulties because some of the social services living on the street do not want to go to the shelter, and we would be faced with such a case”.
According to the journalist, in January the Baiona Consistorial House launched a Great Cold plan to bring street neighbors to a shelter. For its part, to ensure an urgent reception, the Hendaia Town Hall manages a hostel of about ten places in the Intzura district (Joncaux), along with volunteers from the Atherbea, Red Cross and other associations of the municipality.
For its part, the Public Institute of Social Action CCAS of Hendaia explains that they have opened twelve sleeping places between December 1 and March 31. Non-residents should call 115 if they want to sleep in one of these places.
In the wake of death, the Socialist Council of the Northern Basque Country points out that capitalism "condemns structural poverty" to the proletariat and considers it essential to "build a socialist society that guarantees universal housing".
