On 15 July, the occupation of the luxurious homes of the Anglet coast by some thirty people took off. They have focused speculation on housing and, more specifically, the large housing developer Alday, the promoter of these very poor housing – the one-bedroom apartment sold for EUR 440,000 and the four-bedroom apartment for EUR 1.3 million. "They are excessive prices, they are projects carried out for a minority of the population. We all have to do something so that we and future generations can continue to live in the Basque Country! The Ostia collective began the occupation.
The Ostia group comes from the occupation carried out last year in Arbona, with the aim of organizing itself in Iparralde and providing solutions to the problem of speculation.
After seven days, the assembly decided to end the occupation: "The seven-day occupation has achieved its objectives: 'For whom is it built to respond to the needs of the zoin?' establish a public plaza and make those responsible visible, among other promoters who only seek benefit and controversy to build". Claude Olive, for his part, criticized the Ostia collective and underestimated the problem of housing in the town. On Wednesday Ostia met with Anglet’s neighbor to put the problem on the table and draw the solutions. The end of the occupation is reported below.
To finish the occupation, a shared meal and subsequent concentration has been organized at 17:00 in front of the Alday Agency in Constellation de Anglet Street.
