The Socialist Council of Urola Kosta gave the news early on Tuesday morning: it opened the space at 16 in the Aita Mari Group in Zumaia (Gipuzkoa), where it launched the Etxape Socialist Centre. At the time there was an Eroski store located in this space (owned by Eroski), but it has not been given any public use for 20 years and has been abandoned. At dusk they appeared in Zumaia and presented the new Socialist Centre.
The members of the Socialist Council stressed that "we live in a context marked by the crisis". "The living conditions of staff deteriorate every day and the loss of political rights is constant. There is nothing else to do with how basic vital resources are being increased lately: energy, food, housing... But the impoverishment of the offensive promoted by the oligarchy, which is eliminating political rights and eliminating the conditions of independent organization of the proletariat, is also political."
"In this context, the struggle to defend these conditions is of vital importance. We believe that the strengthening of a political strategy focused on the class independence of the proletariat is the way to combat the general impoverishment of living conditions and political freedoms," the Socialist Council of Urola Kosta has called for.
Boosting self-defence instruments
They have recalled that the Socialist Movement of Urola Kosta has launched in recent years a series of struggles, dynamics and projects which, in addition to supporting those that have been launched so far, seek to "create and strengthen instruments of self-defence of the proletariat" through the Etxape Socialist Centre. Among others, they intend to set up at Etxape "self-defence and labour advice offices, commodity collection, political training spaces", etc. "In the short term," for example, they want to organize conversation sessions in Basque at the new Socialist Center.
Need for spaces
"But for this we need a space," warns the members of the Socialist Council. "In this sense, we have the will to reach a consensus on the use of this space in Father Mari de Eroski", explained, "but what we ask is not to empty the space that has been empty for 20 years and that we have opened for political and social activity".
They report that several intermediaries have contacted Eroski to initiate a dialogue process to reach agreement on the conditions of space use. The company has not yet given a clear answer.
This afternoon both the Ertzaintza and the Zumaia agents came to the Etxape area. At sunset, while making the press conference, the Ertzaintza has approached the Socialist Centre and closed an entrance. They keep the police line right now.
Calls
"The objective of this space is for the proletariat to gain organizational capacity and transfer a political strategy focused on class independence," the Socialist Council stressed. Thus, he calls to be attentive to the upcoming calls, and tomorrow they will work in an auzolan throughout the day, addressing the refurbishment works of Etxape.
