The ETA has an open debate and three alternatives are on the table, as reported by the Biscayan newspaper: the first would be to continue as a political entity; the second would be to dissolve without informing the public, as did the Norte entity; and the third option would be to publicly communicate. It is said that the members of the armed organization are discussing these three forms of dissolution in the internal debate.

The Collective of Basque Political Prisoners has also announced that it will revise its line and after announcing that they will address “individual” paths, almost all the agents of Basque society have approved the new one.

The Basque Government believes that the decision is moving in the right direction and that “it is positive because it corrects an extraordinary situation such as the inmates’ inability to access legal options to improve their prison situation in these decades”. Since its creation and up to the PSE-EE, there have been good evaluations of the announcement of prisoners and everyone believes that from now on there should also be changes in prison policy.

The only exception has been the PP and according to the Spanish Interior Minister, Juan Ignacio Zoido, the government will maintain the current prison policy until the dissolution of the ETA. He believes that ETA’s prisoners are like everyone else and will have no more favors than them.

The EPPK has just announced this weekend that 82% of its collective has participated in the discussion of the new line and 73% has approved the one proposed by the management. The decision confirms what the collective decided in 2013: that each prisoner will be able to benefit individually from all the possibilities currently offered by Spanish legislation. The CFP sets two limits: “repentance and denunciation.”
