What about war journalists?
In the last hour of April 26, news came to our mobile phones that gives you the tears that squeeze your heart and want to get out of your eyes. Journalists David Beriain and Roberto Fraile were killed while doing their work. According to David himself, his job was to "tell what no one wants to hear, because the rest is to advertise."
And still feeling rage, rage and grief, May 3 celebrated World Press Freedom Day. We know what the need to claim these days means: International Day of Ablation, International Day against Torture, International Day for the Rights of the Child, etc.
We have lost the opportunity to show our young people that they are also war reporters, brave and capable of fighting for freedom of the press, because what you don't see does not exist, as war reporters know.
TVE, The Eyes of War (R. Through his performance Lozano Bruna, 2011) took the opportunity to pay tribute to David and Roberto and many other journalists. And I say "male journalist," and not "male and female, and" journalist, because only male journalists were referred to. On a day so marked and in which so many people valued and understood the hard work of war journalism, we accidentally forgot to see the work of women war journalists.
These journalists, with camera, tape recorder and pen in hand, gather, like their male colleagues, bulletproof vest, accreditations and identifiers; those journalists who run between tanks, who avoid bullets and hijack them as their fellow men; the first who come to an armored ground, who get the photograph of the year and who perform this singular interview as their fellow men.
Ladies and gentlemen, once again we have lost the opportunity to show our young people that they are also war reporters, courageous and capable of fighting for freedom of the press, because what is not seen does not exist, as war reporters know.
