The Government of Navarra wants to “transfer library services to all citizens”, “who live where they live”. To this end, the Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Rebeca Esnaola, explained on Tuesday in the Parliament of Navarra that the traveling bus model Bibliobus, which was launched in Tierra Estella in October 2022, will also be transferred to the community center to present the main lines of work of its department for the new term.
This measure can be seen as a sample of the Counseling program, as decentralization will be the most prominent feature of the Department of Culture's policies. In this regard, he stressed that all decisions will be taken with the aim of improving “territorial cohesion” throughout its presentation. Indeed, “the bibliobus is a priority project in terms of cultural accessibility, the development of territorial policies, the fight against depopulation and equal opportunities for the rural population”.
“In the last legislature Bibliobus had 47 stops distributed in 42 municipalities and five schools, reaching over 8,000 people,” said Esnaola. The counselor has been proud of the “success” of the initiative, as he understands reading as a worthy right.
The Bibliobus de Tierra Estella transports books, magazines and films daily. There are a total of several other vehicles with six itineraries, the stops and schedules of which are available on the website of the Public Libraries Network of Navarra. In addition, you can request an extraordinary stop by filling out a questionnaire that is found on the web itself to be able to collect the documents at the door of the house.
Although not the size of a library, the Bibliobus offers are similar to any other site of the Navarra Library Network: obtain the service usage card and access books, films or discs from other libraries through the interlibrary loan.
Regarding tourism, Esnaola pointed out that the next four years will be “fundamental” in the “reconversion of Sendaviva and its surroundings”. To this end, he has specified that the conclusions will be analysed and measures will be taken to make the natural leisure park of Arguedas a “benchmark” and economically “sustainable” in the “reflection process” that has been carried out in the last legislature with different agents of the Ribera. It should be recalled that since its opening in 2004, Sendaviva has had to receive public aid of almost EUR 90 million to survive.
