The Parliament of Navarre started the year with a symbolic debate on the reform of the law. The main concern of the Popular Party is the low presence of the kings of Spain in our territory. For this reason, the pp presented yesterday a motion for the Bourbons to be re-present at the Prince of Viana Awards and to change the name of it to take the name of Pritzesa of Viana. The initiative, however, was not supported, beyond the expected seats of UPN and the extreme right. The PSN, EH Bildu, Geroa Bai and With You Navarra joined the defense of the current model and the decision to leave the Spanish monarchy out of exercise. Socialist Ibai Crespo explained that the award has nothing to do with the current monarchy and that it is named “Prince Charles of Viana, an important figure in cultural patronage.” Mikel Zabaleta, from EH Bildu, highlighted the republican character of the sovereign force and recalled that the Bourbons in Navarra are not welcome. Itxaso Soto, by Geroa Bai, recalled that his coalition was the one that brought this act out of all the Spanish monarchy in Navarre and that he was proud of the decision. With you Navarre stated that the prize, without the presence of kings and princes, has not lost category or echo.

The argument put forward by pp was the lack of an echo of the act of the Príncipe de Viana Awards to introduce below the doors a motion in favor of the Spanish kings. The initiative was fully supported by the extreme right, who did not hesitate to withdraw it. For its part, UPN voted in favour of the presence of the Bourbons, yes, but against changing the name of the prize.
