In June of last year there was a document from the CIA linking the former President of the Spanish Government, Felipe González, to the LAGs. In this sense, PILI Zabala presented a request for research at the National Hearing, which considers these documents as important to take further steps in the investigation of the GAL. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed the petition and, showing its disagreement with the measure, have presented today’s manifesto. In Zabala’s view, truth never prescribes and, in order to avoid impunity, the UN forces states to seek the truth.
So far, at least, the Spanish Government has closed the matter and has pointed out in a number of ways that it will not go into it further. In August last year, for example, HB Bildu Deputy Jon Iñarritu asked the government whether it would take the appropriate steps to "clarify all the attacks of state terrorism". The Government responded by saying that there has been no state terrorism; therefore, if there has not been, it should not be investigated either.
As we read in El Diario.eus, the manifesto is supported by more than a hundred personalities such as Garaikoetxea or the lehendakari Ibarretxe. The signatories include Gorka Landaburu, Daniel Innerarity, Noam Chomsky and the film director Patria, Aitor Gabilondo.
