Sanchez says no to Urkullu: The Basque Government will not decide which economic activities will be suspended
- The spokeswoman for the Government of Spain, María Jesús Montero, said that all communities must comply with the decision to paralyse non-essential economic activities. Pedro Sánchez made these statements after his meeting with all the autonomous communities.
The Spanish Government announced on Saturday its decision to suspend all non-essential economic activities in the territory of the Community. The PNV showed its outrage at the decision, and lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, sent a letter to Sánchez asking each community to decide what to suspend and maintain.
Following the meeting, the spokesman for the Spanish Government, Montero, appeared before the media. He pointed out that the Government could not make differences between territories: "It's critical that we agree, we can't make any difference. The virus spreads without differences between territories and economic status." It has ensured that the decision has been taken on the basis of expert scientific criteria to minimise mobility.

According to the media Eldiario.es, at the meeting the Spanish Government has received many criticisms of the way in which it has done things. All the regional presidents have been made aware of the decision through the media, no consensus has been reached with any of them – according to El País, very few have participated in the decision, and the decision has been taken at the last moment.
With regard to the specific content of the measure announced, lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has been the most critical. For his part, the President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, has applauded the decision, as it has long demanded the cessation of all non-essential economic activity. At the end of the meeting, Urkullu disseminated through Twiiter a video entitled “Priorities for mitigating the impact of the virus in the Basque Country”. It makes no reference to the meeting or to the refusal it has received from the Government of Spain.
