The president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced last week a series of measures that, among other things, gave "more strength" to the autonomous communities in the particular management of the coronavirus health crisis. Following the debate on case counts and the follow-up of asymptomatic cases, he highlighted the “difficulties in finding specialized professionals”, such as in Madrid or in the Generalitat de Catalunya, which had been made available to the private sector until recently.
To solve the problem, Sánchez announced his intention to mobilize 2,000 military personnel. "Communities that don't have enough trackers can count on the help of the Armed Forces," the president said at a press conference.
The Government of Spain has acknowledged that it will respond "immediately" to the request of examiners who make the autonomous communities. Defense Minister Margarita Robles and Deputy Defense Secretary Amparo Valcarce said on Thursday they will do so "for as long as necessary".
In the same vein, the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, hopes that the first military explorers will be handed over to the autonomous communities on Friday. In addition, he stressed that 2,000 "high-level" services will be offered, with "very effective" soldiers who will work as autonomous units in those communities that have requested it.
Navarre is among the regional governments that have applied for military aid to prevent the referendum on independence. The CAV, for its part, has refused to cooperate by considering that it has "sufficient resources" to access the aid.
