On June 22, Fan Hemen’s day will be held in Oñati. Different acts will be carried out to denounce the presence of the armed and police forces of Spain and France in Euskal Herria. Although it is not the same activity as at the time of armed confrontation, they denounce that the Basque Country is still the most militarized territory and with the most armed forces per inhabitant throughout Europe.
Oñati is one of the municipalities of the Basque Country with a Civil Guard headquarters. Fan Hemendik members say that on 25 June it is 34 years since the Civil Guard’s assassination of the oñatiarra Susana Arrangi in Lumbier. They stress that their presence “has no other justification than to guarantee the repression and unity of the imprisonments by force” and call for Oñati to be a town without a barracks.
