Spanish banks and energy multinationals continue to earn millions of euros, according to the data
- In the context of the widespread impoverishment of citizenship, a minority continues to be enriched, as demonstrated by economic studies carried out annually by agents such as Oxfam. These weeks we are aware of the economic performance of many companies in the first six months of this year and, for example, the large Spanish bank – Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell, Bankinter and Unicaja – has earned a combined income of €9,454 million in the first six months, 20.98% more than in 2021. Without recovering from the economic crisis of 2008, the economic situation caused by the pandemic, in the first place, and by the war in Ukraine, in the second place, has also dramatically increased its benefits to the major banks.
Coming into August, we are gradually getting to know the balance of the first six months of the main companies that make up the Ibex35. A week ago we reported that Iberdrola has made profits of EUR 2,075 million and that Repsol has doubled its profits.
Today we bring the balance sheets of more multinationals in the energy sector:
- Endesa earns €916 million (+10%)
- It shares EUR 390 million (+155%).
In the first half of the year, the large Spanish banks received a profit of EUR 9.454 million, which is 21% higher than in the same period last year. The relationship is as follows:
- EUR 4,894 million (+33%) from Santander
- BBVA 3.001 million euros (+56%)
- CaixaBank 1.573 (+17%)
- Sabadell EUR 393 million (+78%)
- Bankinter for €276 million (+11%).
Increasingly expensive basic needs
While a few are enriching themselves, the majority of the population has been able to feel in recent months how their standard of living has been reduced as a result of the widespread rise in prices. Inflation in July has risen by 10.8% in the Spanish State, something you have not seen in 38 years, and electricity, food and clothing have been the most upward in the last month.
