Scotland will be the first country to teach LGBTI lessons in schools
- Starting in 2021, a lesson on the history of the LGBTI+ movement will be taught in all public centres in Scotland, by government decision. “We owe it to the next generations so that the school becomes a place where all children and young people can be without fear what they are,” the Ministry of Education says.
The goal of creating a specific lesson on the LGBTI+ collective, in addition to learning about the history, struggles and victories of the movement, is to talk about LGBTIphobia, same-sex marriage, AIDS and other issues. The LGBTI collective believes it's a big step forward, because integrating all of that into education is a commitment to the security of future generations. In short, it is one of the most important educational tools to address harassment, prejudice and discrimination.
The Scottish Ministry of Education has been very proud of the decision, which has been rejected. “The curriculum must be as plural as the people who learn in our centers. The new subject will not only improve the experience of LGBTI students, but will benefit all students for diversity and coexistence.”
