Ertzaintza Esan union calls on EITB to expel journalist Xabier Lapitz
- The second Ertzaintza union has fought hard against journalist Xabier Lapitz, who believes he uses En Jake's session and his Twitter account to insult and despise Ertzaintza and the Ertzaintza.
According to the union with a 32% representation in the Ertzaintza, it is not fair for the journalist to use a means of public communication to attack an institution such as the Ertzaintza, "when, according to the Deustobartometer of 2022, the Ertzaintza has reached a level of trust of 5.1, which only surpasses the university, and far above other institutions such as the Basque Government itself."
"This presenter of the Basque Public Television and some Tertulian of his table show great contempt for the entity so well valued by the citizens, and therefore it is not understandable to continue in their work". Esane’s text can be read in full on the Irekia website of the Basque Government.
Xabier Lapitz has also denounced the attack he is suffering on Twitter by the Ertzainas who mainly work anonymously. He clarifies that he had to face an ertzaina street dress this Thursday: “This ertzaina has threatened me on the street. When I went to make a photo, he starts running. Shame,” the journalist says in a bird.

Lapitz has been reflecting on the police model of the Ertzaintza, and in the column written in the newspaper Deia claims that this model should be set by the Basque Parliament and not by the unions: "I think it's not a bad thing to understand which policeman most of society wants. And I see that the police unions have not understood that. And if you've understood it, you didn't like it, because that requires another work effort, different from what's been done so far."
The journalist also warns in the same article of the dark spaces that may arise in the Ertzaintza: "[The Ertzainas] They have social recognition for the work done during all these years and for their threat, but they do not give them the right to spaces of impunity. They're creating black holes, and they need clarification."
The Esan trade union, for example, has called for the reuse of rubber balls that left the Basque Government in 2013 in conflicting streets.
