The Ertzaintza spent almost EUR 345,000 on the G7 summit support operation
- The Department of Security of the Basque Government, in response to Elkarrekin Podemos, has made public the police expenses incurred by the Basque Government in connection with the G7 meeting in Biarritz. The security mechanism of the Independence Summit in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa cost citizens more than EUR 344,000.
The Ertzaintza spent EUR 344,918,13 on the special operation it organised last August at the G7 summit in Biarritz. These are the data contained in the official information sent to the Basque Parliament at the request of Iñigo Martínez, representative of IU and Elkarrekin Podemos. This number is partial, with regard to the Ertzaintza, as other police forces also participated in the device.
In the section of Hego Euskal Herria, for example, the National Police and the Civil Guard took over most of the border control and coordination with France, while the Ertzaintza was in charge of public order and traffic.
In the brief information sent to Parliament, the Basque Government Security Council, Estefanía Beltrán de Heredia, has detailed the following: "The first aspect to highlight is that the objective of the deployment was to respond to the risks of public security in the Basque Country that could arise from the protests announced against this summit."
