Five young people from Oñati reported being assaulted by Ertzaintza agents on the night of 15 June in the vicinity of the Antixena Park in Oñati. In a festive atmosphere and without any time of tension, the event occurred after the concerts that closed the “Jare Barracks Day”, organized by the Civil Guard to request the departure of Oñati.
“One of us, when we went from gaztetxe to the plaza, saw the blue lights and warned that there were cipayos,” said the youth assaulted in a statement posted on social networks. Then, dozens of Ertzainas, among insults like “zipaio you’re going to call your fucking mother,” were beaten with extensible pores and disappeared quickly.
“It seemed that the Ertzainas were waiting for someone, without giving any explanation, and with the baton in their hand they all came together to visit us,” explains one of the young people who was in the aggression. “I have six or seven blows in my body and one of the Ertzainas broke the pot, which shows the immense violence exerted,” he added.
The note published today reports that no legal complaint will be lodged in order to avoid the consequences and repression that this may entail and to maintain anonymity.
Jare Barracks Day
The movement, known in recent years as “Fan Hemendik”, has come to this year’s edition with new covers. The popular initiative seeking to demand the presence of the Civil Guard in Oñati has carried out the events organized on 15 June under the slogan “The Jare Barracks”.
This year’s program’s strong plate was the giant photo that was taken at noon on Saturday in the town square. Hundreds of people of all ages gathered at the venue of the demonstration in previous years. In the last month, a collection of signatures was also launched to call for the march of the Civil Guard, which has already received about 1,800 signatures.
However, the “Jare Barracks Day” began with a wine tasting and after the giant photo, the neighbors had the opportunity to take strength for the whole day with the popular kitchen that was installed in the plaza.
The afternoon shift started with a series of games in which several groups of friends and friends participated. In the poteo also there was no lack of animations full of music. At night, the festival ended with a concert at the gaztetxe, which counted on the collaboration of the DJs and the concerts.
