In the show released on Sunday by Basque public television, Honoring Courage; Blue Lives Matter (Honor to Courage; Axola Blue Lives) appeared with a jersey with images of a police and the United States symbol. The result is a debate that arose for two main reasons: the nature of the movement and the other attitude of EITB when the slogans have been other.
Clamour for turning the death of the police into a hate crime
Blue Lives Matter was created in 2014 by three New York policemen after the murder of two of their members in downtown New York. It has subsequently spread throughout the United States, and its slogans and images have spread between the far right and the far right. The movement consists of members of the security forces, both active and in retirement. Their main claim is that police killings should be declared a hate crime, comparable to crimes relating to race or sexual identity. The movement has taken place in the state of Louisiana, one of the greatest achievements: Since 2016, crimes against the police, firefighters and medical professionals in this case constitute a crime of hatred.
History of EITB censorship
In 2018, EITB refused to interview producer Juan Lekanda for a gastronomic program. Alsasua's was dressed in the t-shirt with the slogan Aske, which was asked to be removed, but he did not accept it. The event, which also came to the Basque Parliament, sparked a debate. In it, the then EITB director, Maite Iturbe, put as an argument of the bans point 3.3 of the public style book: “The objective of participation should not be different from the objectives of EITB. That is, viewers, listeners and users should not use participation mechanisms for personal, commercial or advertising purposes.”
