The Basque Government has opened the door to Valogreene to install an incinerator in Bergara. This decision has highlighted the Basque Government's desire to promote the economic interests of private individuals in the face of the health of citizens. Moreover, it shows a low level of democracy by failing to give a concrete response to the allegations and by failing to take into account the Bergara PGOU (General Urban Management Plan). P.G.O.U. does not collect or dispose of waste and Valogreen intends to implement these two actions.
On the other hand, citizens must be informed of the following aspects:
The treatment of waste by Valogreen will lead to toxic emissions, such as heavy metals, dioxins and furans, and no specific study has been carried out in the technical project to investigate its effect. The location of the activity is not adequate, as the houses are close: 125 meters from a farmhouse, 440 meters from Basalgo and one kilometer from the urban area of Bergara.
"Valogreen in waste treatment will generate toxic discharges such as heavy metals, dioxins and furans"
Valogreen and the Basque Government want us to sell a lime production facility, but that is not true. The plant will only incorporate waste as a raw material, a total of 155,000 t/year of paper waste (162.00 t/year in the Zubieta incinerator) to be incinerated. Accordingly, it shall generate annually:
8,000 tonnes of hazardous waste
90,000 tons of dirty water.
592,000 tons of smoke.
10 tonnes of mercury in the air.
Emissions will be measured 365 days 24 hours, but the most dangerous pollutants (dioxins, furans, heavy metals…) will only be measured 6 hours a year. How can we know that the limits will not be exceeded?
The Basque Government, knowing this, defends the consistency of the project with the permanent objectives.
How can we trust a public institution that defends this kind of lie? It is incomprehensible and we have to stop this activity. No incinerator, neither here nor anywhere.
